STATION 4 BVM APNEIC WITH PULSE

• ASSUME you have a patient with a pulse, but not breathing. You do not need to assess this patient for this station.

• Open the airway with head tilt/chin lift

• Measure and insert OPA

• Begin Ventilations with Bag Valve Mask (BVM)

• GET A GOOD SEAL! WATCH FOR CHEST RISE AND SAY YOU ARE ENSURING ADEQUATE CHEST RISE WITHOUT OVERINFLATING! If chest does not rise, re do mask seal.

• Ventilate for 30 SECONDS. ONE BREATH EVERY 5-6 SECONDS OVER THE COURSE OF 1 SECOND

• AFTER 30, NOW OXYGEN! SAY You will now attach the BVM to Oxygen; SAY you will apply high concentration oxygen at 15-25 LPM while you are turning the dial on the regulator to 15.  Attach BVM to Oxygen tank. (Tank will be set up, you do not need to assemble the tank/regulator)

• YOUR SECOND RESCUER ARRIVES AND YOU NOW ONLY CONTROL AIRWAY AND THE SEAL.

• TELL YOUR ASSISTANT WHAT YOU ARE DOING

• INSTRUCT YOUR ASSISTANT HOW AND WHEN TO SQUEEZE THE BAG. COUNT OUT LOUD.
