STATION 4 BVM APNEIC WITH PULSE
ASSUME you have a patient with a pulse, but not breathing. You do not need to assess this patient for this station.
Open the airway with head tilt/chin lift
Measure and insert OPA
Begin Ventilations with Bag Valve Mask (BVM)
GET A GOOD SEAL! WATCH FOR CHEST RISE AND SAY YOU ARE ENSURING ADEQUATE CHEST RISE WITHOUT OVERINFLATING! If chest does not rise, re do mask seal.
Ventilate for 30 SECONDS. ONE BREATH EVERY 5-6 SECONDS OVER THE COURSE OF 1 SECOND
AFTER 30, NOW OXYGEN! SAY You will now attach the BVM to Oxygen; SAY you will apply high concentration oxygen at 15-25 LPM while you are turning the dial on the regulator to 15. Attach BVM to Oxygen tank. (Tank will be set up, you do not need to assemble the tank/regulator)
YOUR SECOND RESCUER ARRIVES AND YOU NOW ONLY CONTROL AIRWAY AND THE SEAL.
TELL YOUR ASSISTANT WHAT YOU ARE DOING
INSTRUCT YOUR ASSISTANT HOW AND WHEN TO SQUEEZE THE BAG. COUNT OUT LOUD.
